Melanoma

A melanoma is a skin tumor that is usually black in pigment. They are more common in grey colored horses and usually first seen around the tail, head and perianal areas. However, they can be located anywhere including internally. The tissue of the tumor secretes melanin, which is a black pigment found in skin cells. They can be benign to severely metastatic.
